Randy Thomas

Interim Pastor

Randy, over his 40 years of full-time church work, has worn many different hats.  He’s planted a church, starting and led a successful faith-based nonprofit, been a preacher, youth pastor, education pastor, pastoral counselor, and served as a volunteer chaplain in the divorce courts.  He has a Masters in Pastoral Counseling.  Randy, as our Interim Pastor, has a passion for helping people connect with God and find hope.  He and his wife, Kathy, have three grown children and four grandchildren. Randy loves traveling and loving on people.  Oh, and as a hobby, he plays a mean Irish whistle and flute.

Coffee Shop Order:
"Depends on the day . . . most of the time it’s a simple Pike coffee, room for cream.  But on occasion, when the moon is out and the stars are in alignment, I’ll splurge and add a sprinkle o
f cinnamon.  Oooh."

David Pereira

Pastor of Family and Youth

Email: david@warrenbaptistchurch.org

After growing up amid the vineyards and orchards in the San Joaquin Valley of California, David ventured to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, for an Ag Business Management program he never finished.  His first summer home found him back on the tractor reflecting on what he was learning at two weekly Bible studies, and listening to J. Vernon McGee and John Mitchell whenever work would allow.

He returned to college with a forgiven heart longing to know God's word better, and eventually joined a church planting team headed for Anchorage.  After two years of serving and teaching there, he finished his bachelor's degree in Ag Economics at Oregon State University with a strengthened fervor to communicate Jesus' offer of new life.

Eight years of ministry at OSU amid cooperating college ministries left him longing to become a better student and teacher of Scripture.  In  the summer of '86 he and some friends drove an overloaded trailer down the interstate toward Denver Seminary where he eventually earned his MDiv in 1990.  He ended up working and ministering in Colorado for nearly sixteen years, completed an MA at Colorado Christian University and married his bride from Montana, Joyce, in 1999.

A couple years later as David and Joyce were in northwest Oregon visiting friends from their common OSU alma mater, he learned of an opening for an Associate Pastor of Families and Youth at Warren Baptist Church near St. Helens, Oregon.  By the summer of 2002, they had moved to Columbia County and Dave began working with families, teaching teens, leading Men's Huddles, visiting inmates and coordinating local networks for youth ministers and for post-release ministry to former inmates in the county.  He also networks with youth pastors in the Northwest region of our conference encouraging their participation in the ConvergeNW Student Ministries Network.

Harmony Givens

Worship Coordinator

Harmony was born in St. Helens, Oregon, to Larry and Vivian Ward and grew up with her older brother, Dustin, and younger brother, Christopher. Harmony was educated at home up until her college years, at which point she attended Portland Community College to become a Medical Assistant. She has spent most of her life living in Scappoose and started attending WBC with her family when she was 18. In 2009 Harmony met a Salem boy snowboarding on Mt Hood and in 2010 she and Joel got married. Their first year of marriage was spent serving with Missionary TECH Team in Longview, Texas. Upon their return they bought a house in St Helens and started once again attending WBC.

Harmony currently works part-time at Cornell Family Medicine in Portland but her full-time job is being a wife to Joel and a mom to their son, Liam. In any free time she has, Harmony enjoys playing the piano and reading.

After twelve years of attendance and volunteering on the worship team, Harmony's interest in music led her to filling the Worship Coordinator position at WBC.

Administrative Assitant

Cathy Friesen

Wedding Coordinator

Cathy was born in Portland, Oregon while her dad was stationed at the Portland Air Base.  Being an Air Force "Brat", she and her family moved several times during her childhood including living in the states of N. Dakota, Nebraska, California and S. Dakota.  After her dad retired when she had just turned 15, they found themselves back in Portland.  There, she attended Roosevelt High School as a Sophomore not knowing anyone.  She soon became friends with a sweet girl who also was very involved in her church.  Cathy had attended church off and on with her family as a child, but didn't have any interest at this point in her life.  But her friend was persistent in asking Cathy to join her and see what the youth group was all about.  She finally said yes, just so she wouldn't be asked any more!  She had no idea how this first experience at 1st Baptist Church of St. Johns Youth Group would change the rest of her life.  It wasn't long after that she accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized.  Did we mention that she also met her future husband, Lamar there?   He actually was the first person she saw and thought he was pretty cute!

Throughout their marriage, Cathy has seen God's grace, provision and love as they have gone through many trials together.  They've been married almost 37 years and have two grown children and two grandkids too that they love to pieces!

Cathy loves photography and she may as well have her camera attached to the palm of her hand, because that is where you'll usually see it.  She also loves to travel and shares her new found love of Kayaking the nearby waterways with her husband, Lamar.

Since moving to Warren in 1987, Cathy has served here at WBC pretty much since the day she and Lamar walked in the door. She has been a part of the Worship Team and Women's Ministries, taught little ones in Pioneer Club, served as the Worship Coordinator and Administrative Assistant to the Pastors, and she continues to serve as Wedding Coordinator.
